If you are interested in health and wellness – specifically, in improving your own health and wellness in a natural, safe, and non-addictive way – you may have recently heard a great deal about cannabidiol, or CBD for short. CBD has become increasingly popular all over the country in recent years, particularly since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized all hemp and hemp-derived products containing less than .3% THC. It seems there are CBD products popping up everywhere – there are CBD-infused coffee and smoothies, personal care products, beer, gummies, and more. The product possibilities, in fact, seem almost endless.
Described as a “wonder supplement” by many, CBD has been shown to have many benefits; in fact, new benefits of using CBD seem to continually be discovered, and this is wonderful news. Understandably, though, those who want to add CBD to their daily health and wellness routines may still have questions about its use. This is understandable, as, despite its increasing popularity, CBD is still somewhat new to the market. As a result, questions are normal, and at Rejuvia, we believe that they should be answered.
A Common CBD Question
One common question that we regularly receive about CBD is this: “With all of the benefits that CBD offers, what about side effects?” This is an entirely reasonable question, as to some people, CBD seems almost too good to be true. The good news we have is that, in fact, CBD fortunately has very few side effects. Those that it does have are moderate and are typically remedied by adjusting the dosage or the time of day that CBD is consumed. Some of the mild side effects of CBD usage that have been reported include:
- Nausea: Nausea and mild gastrointestinal issues are one of the reported side effects of using CBD. This may include feelings of stomach cramping or upset. Often, these symptoms are caused by taking too large of a dosage of CBD at one time and can be remedied by adjusting dosage downward until you find an amount that works best with your body’s digestive system.
- Drowsiness: CBD is well known for promoting feelings of calm and relaxation. While this is wonderful, one side effect can, understandably, be drowsiness. Occasionally, this is bothersome to those who are taking CBD for other purposes. In these cases, we would suggest simply planning to take your CBD in the evening, if possible. Another option to remedy this side effect is to adjust the dosage until you find an amount that does not make you sleepy.
- Loss of appetite: This symptom is somewhat ironic, as CBD is often associated with marijuana, another product of the cannabis plant, which often causes increased feelings of hunger. This side effect is not extremely common and will usually pass with time. Taking CBD at a time other than meal times can be wise, however, just to ensure that you avoid this potential side effect at a time when you might otherwise be hungry.
All of these symptoms, as noted, are fairly mild. While they may be inconvenient at first, they are often quickly remedied by either adjusting the dosage of CBD that you take or the time of day that you take it. While determining the best time and dosage may involve a bit of trial and error, it has been our experience at Rejuvia that the majority of our customers quickly arrive at a dosage and daily routine that best fits their needs.
A Side Effect That You Won’t Experience ….
Having discussed many of the common side effects associated with CBD use, we also felt it important to take a moment to discuss one issue that is not a side effect of using CBD – despite many mistaken assumptions. As CBD is still fairly new to many communities across the country, some confusion still exists about what it is and what it isn’t. Many, understandably, confuse CBD with marijuana. This is not entirely unreasonable, as both CBD and marijuana are derived from varieties of the cannabis plant. In truth, however, CBD and marijuana are very different, and they function differently within the body.
Perhaps the primary difference, for the purpose of examining side effects, is understanding that marijuana has psychoactive properties while CBD does not. Marijuana contains large amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC for short. THC is the compound that is largely responsible for the feeling of being “high” that many users experience when taking marijuana. CBD, by contrast, if derived from the hemp variety of the cannabis plant, contains very low levels of THC, and has no psychoactive effects. In fact, to be federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, all hemp and hemp-derived products, CBD included, must have .3% or less THC content.
Beyond having lower levels of THC naturally, many CBD providers, like Rejuvia, take extra steps to ensure that their products are entirely THC-free. This is made possible by using quality-controlled, high-tech purification and extraction processes. At Rejuvia, we also take the extra step of lab testing each of our products to ensure that they are pure, potent, and full of the beneficial compounds that you want while being free of any undesired compounds, like THC, that you don’t. As a result, customers can consume our CBD products with peace of mind in knowing that they will be receiving benefits without psychoactive side effects.
