The health and wellness superstar, CBD, is making headlines at every turn. Most US cities are practically inundated with ads, specialty shops, and even billboards, doting on CBD for its versatility and effectiveness. It seems to have gone from “fad” to “permanent fixture” in the lives of many, and it doesn’t appear to be losing momentum any time soon. To understand why this so-called “wonder supplement” is making such an impression and how it can benefit you, let’s take a closer look at what it is and how you can use it to see the numerous benefits reported by consumers on a daily basis. We will also pay extra attention to the idiosyncrasies of measuring the perfect CBD dosage amount for your optimal needs, using the dropper to its maximum potential. (Spoiler: CBD products and their droppers vary, so this information will be vital to understanding exactly how much CBD you are consuming!)

What Is CBD?

First things first. Before we get into the nitty-gritty of exactly what CBD is used for and how to accurately use your CBD dropper to fine-tune the perfect dosage to meet your needs, we first need to have a foundational understanding of exactly what CBD is and why it impacts the body in such beneficial ways.

CBD is a versatile and fascinating compound found in a variety of cannabis plants. Short for cannabidiol, this particular ingredient is one of over 100 compounds called “cannabinoids” found within these plants and used in health and wellness products across the country. CBD and other cannabinoids are completely legal in the United States when they are derived from the hemp plant. Hemp is a genetic cousin of the marijuana plant, but is also quite different, as marijuana naturally contains high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (commonly known as THC), the ingredient known for its psychoactive effects. Hemp plants contain only trace amounts of the psychoactive ingredient (up to .3%), and those trace amounts are not considered to be harmful.

Since 2018 when The Farm Bill was passed, products containing hemp-derived CBD began hitting the shelves at rapid rates, as consumers were eager to try this beneficial ingredient without fear of psychoactive effects. The federal law made it legal for hemp-derived CBD (with up to .3% THC) to be grown, manufactured, sold, and consumed across the country. Because this plant-based extract is non-psychoactive, safe to use, and non-addictive, it has become a hot item in the homes of millions and a welcomed addition to the wellness routines of many.

What Can CBD Actually Do?

While extensive research is still in its infancy and we have perhaps only tapped into a small fraction of what CBD is capable of, there are some basic scientific unveilings that have given CBD supporters (and even skeptics) hope that there is significantly more potential to be revealed in the years ahead. Understanding how our bodies react to the compound is the first step in understanding how it may benefit us.

Every single body has internal workings known as the “endocannabinoid system.” Within that system lie numerous receptors that impact head to toe bodily functions – from our ability to relax and fall asleep to our receptors that indicate that our muscles and joints feel fatigue and discomfort. Whether as a result of diet, age, smoking, or other factors, our bodies sometimes fail to produce all of the endocannabinoids we need to function optimally. Some research suggests that, when consumed, CBD may mimic our naturally-occurring endocannabinoids, providing relief to discomforts in our bodies in a natural way. This fascinating glimpse into the ongoing research makes the idea of CBD even more exciting, as a future filled will an all-natural, plant-derived compound, positively impacting our bodies, is hopeful, promising one.

Using CBD to Experience Optimal Benefits

As promised, we are going to delve into how CBD can best benefit you, which goes hand in hand with finding your optimal CBD dosage. In an effort to reveal exactly how much control you have over your dosage when you use a dropper, we are going to primarily focus on the idiosyncrasies of using CBD drops. Most other CBD products are premeasured to a degree (softgels, for example). So while you can control your dosage by understanding how many milligrams of CBD is contained in each softgel, you cannot fine-tune your dosage as carefully as you can with a dropper.

First, all CBD is not identical. Before proceeding in your effort to find the right amount of CBD to meet your needs, you will want to ensure that your CBD is pure, filler-free, and produced by a trustworthy company that utilizes a third party for lab testing. This provides you the assurance that your product contains only beneficial ingredients, with no unwanted pesticides, metals, or solvents. Once this vital preliminary box is checked and you have found a reputable CBD brand with quality CBD products you can trust, you can shift your attention to dosage.

CBD Drops and Droppers: Your Ally in Finding Your Perfect Dose

CBD drops, which are sometimes referred to as CBD Oil Tinctures, are one of the most popular CBD products on the market today, because they deliver quick results to the consumer. That’s because these products are typically taken sublingually (meaning, placing the drops under the tongue), and held for about 60 seconds before swallowing, giving the ingredients time to absorb directly into the bloodstream via the numerous microscopic blood vessels under the tongue, bypassing the digestive tract.

When you pick up any bottle of CBD drops, you first want to examine how many milligrams of CBD are contained in the entire bottle, then how many are contained in a “serving,” which is usually a full dropper. This amount can vary, depending on the concentration of CBD in the specific product.

For example, a CBD oil bottle containing 500 milligrams total can have about 16.6 milligrams per serving, giving consumers generally about 30 servings per bottle. In your effort to find the perfect amount to meet your needs, you should start with a small dose and work your way up, as needed. A responsible retailer will likely recommend starting with your dropper ¼ full, meaning you’ll expose your body to only four milligrams to start. Now, depending on your weight, you may not see any effects right away, and you may want to increase your dosage.

Similarly, a CBD oil bottle containing 1000 milligrams total can have about 33.3 milligrams per serving, again giving consumers generally about 30 servings per bottle. But in this case, a serving contains double the amount of the active CBD ingredient. This is why it is absolutely imperative to understand how to use your dropper! You can easily take more than necessary and potentially experience unwanted side effects.

In general, if you are a first time CBD user, here is how you should begin using your CBD Oil Tincture:

Simply unscrew the dropper from the bottle, lightly squeeze the top until the dropper is ¼ full, and squeeze the product under your tongue. Hold for 60 seconds, then swallow. Because you have the benefit of the dropper, and the understanding of how to use it to incrementally control your dosage, you can fill it halfway, three-quarters of the way, or fill it completely, depending on your personal dosage needs. Either way, it is important to understand exactly how many milligrams of CBD you are ingesting and how you feel as a result. It may be beneficial to write down your dosages so you can refer back to it in your diligent effort to find the perfect amount for you.

Quality Matters

Just like with any other product you ingest or apply to your skin, quality truly matters. Especially with health and wellness supplements, which are usually taken with the goal of reaping benefits for the mind and body, you don’t want to settle for subpar. That’s why shopping at Rejuvia™ is such a breath of fresh air. Founded by individuals who worked within the medical field for over 50 years, this company is rooted in passion for improving the health and wellness of others. They have earned a shining reputation for providing the very best, organically-grown, THC-free, hemp-derived CBD on the market. And their one-on-one customer service is second only to their diverse, safe to use, unrivaled CBD products. When you’re seeking a trustworthy CBD brand to partner with on your health and wellness journey, look no further than Rejuvia™! You’ll be thankful you did!

No matter which health and wellness product you ingest or apply to your skin, using the proper amount is vital in achieving your desired effects. If you take too little, you risk not feeling any benefits at all and may eventually consider that product ineffective. If you take too much, you may experience various types of discomfort and shy away from a product that actually does have the potential to provide relief.

CBD has quickly gained a strong following of individuals who swear by its ability to relieve numerous physical and emotional discomforts. However, those who haven’t fine-tuned their CBD dosage may be missing out on the maximum benefits it has to offer, limiting their wellness journey without even realizing it.

Getting to Know CBD

With its overwhelming rise in popularity, CBD has begun making a name for itself in the health and wellness industry as promising reviews from newbies and longtime users alike have generated excessive interest in this so-called “wonder-supplement.” Along with rave reviews, CBD also has prompted its share of questions from the general public, and many misnomers can be found all over the internet, leaving some feeling skeptical about CBD and what it’s actually capable of. In an effort to put some of the uncertainty to rest and provide consumers a closer look at CBD from every angle, we are going to delve into all things CBD, including:

❏What is CBD?

❏CBD, hemp, marijuana, cannabis… What’s the difference?

❏Is CBD legal?

❏What is CBD used for?

Once all of those basic questions are addressed in an easy-to-understand fashion to ensure we have a baseline of CBD knowledge to build upon, we will pay special attention to one very vital aspect of CBD usage:

CBD dosages: Understanding labels, milligrams, droppers, and other dosage nuances to find the most ideal dosage amount for your needs.

Your CBD Questions…  Answered

What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, and it is one of the numerous compounds found in the hemp plant (there are over 100, in fact!). Once the compound is safely extracted from the plant via CO₂ or solvent extraction (the primary methods used by reputable CBD brands), it is typically put through a stringent purification process to remove any residual compounds, solvents, metals, and chemicals.

For companies offering products considered “broad-spectrum”meaning all traces of THC are removed – an additional step is taken to remove that compound as well. Products labeled “full-spectrum” can contain up to .3% THC, which is still considered “trace amounts,” making it legal and unlikely to produce side effects. After the extraction and purification, a concentrated CBD extract remains, and that extract is used in numerous health and wellness products on the market today.

CBD, THC, Hemp, Marijuana, Cannabis… What’s the Difference?

Because so many websites and articles seem to use many of these words interchangeably, it’s important to provide a clear understanding of these common terms so you are confident and well-informed as you continue learning about CBD and the many products you will find in stores and online containing it.

First, for CBD newbies, you may be surprised to learn that each of these terms is referring to something different. They’re all under the same vocabulary umbrella, and they are all important to learn in order to truly understand what you’re buying – so here is the breakdown:

Hemp and marijuana are both plants in the cannabis family. They are genetically similar, but not identical. While both plants contain many microscopic compounds called cannabinoids, only the marijuana plant contains high levels of THC, the ingredient responsible for psychoactive side effects. CBD is found in both plants. However, hemp plants contain significantly higher levels of CBD than marijuana plants – making it the ideal source for CBD oil. Therefore, hemp-derived CBD is the compound featured in many CBD products in stores and online, as it naturally contains .3% THC or less, complying with the law. We’ll expand on the legal information about CBD products next.

Is CBD legal?

Now that the different terms are more clear, the legality of these products will make more sense. CBD derived from hemp is completely legal in the United States since the passing of the Farm Bill in 2018. This means that individuals are free to purchase, use, and even travel with their CBD products without worry, thanks to this recent federal law.

The caveat: Consumers should pay attention to where they buy their CBD, ensuring they’re purchasing it from a reputable brand who guarantees that their CBD is hemp-derived by sharing their entire process – from growing the hemp plants to processing their products. Trustworthy companies will utilize third-party lab testing as well as the corresponding lab reports for customers to view, making it easy to verify what is (and what isn’t) in each CBD product. If there’s no third-party lab testing providing the extra layer of quality assurance, it’s best to find a different company.

What is CBD used for?

Because the CBD market has been rapidly expanding since 2018, research for CBD treating specific ailments is still in its infancy, but that hasn’t stopped consumers from coast to coast from reporting their success stories to anyone who will listen, resulting in an even higher demand for more versatile CBD products from top brands. CBD believers report that CBD products can aid in:

  • supporting a more restful night’s sleep
  • emotional and physical relaxation
  • joint and muscle recovery
  • reducing bodily fatigue
  • enhancing skincare routines from head to toe

These are just a few of the benefits regularly reported by customers, and the list

continues to grow as more products hit the market, combining CBD with other

beneficial ingredients and essential oils to address an individual’s specific needs.

CBD Dosages: A Closer Look

Understanding labels, milligrams, droppers, and other dosage nuances to find the most ideal dosage amount for your needs

If you are someone who has given CBD a try and didn’t see your desired results, it’s possible that you used an incorrect dosage amount which, of course, failed to provide the benefits you were expecting. Because there are so many nuances when it comes to understanding how much CBD is just right for you, we are going to delve into the things to consider when trying to find your ideal CBD dosage for maximum benefits.

Understanding Labels on Your CBD Products

All CBD is not the same, which means the product found in one bottle is not identical to the same type of product in a bottle from a different company. The first step to understanding a specific product is to begin by looking closely at the label. (Note: When shopping online, most reputable companies will provide photos of their product labels as well as the vital product information within the description. So when we refer to “reading labels,” this means in-store or online in order to understand what’s inside the product.)

When you look closely at any CBD product, you’ll first see the name of the company, followed by the name of the product, and you’ll likely see how many ounces / milligrams is in the bottle. After ensuring your product contains hemp-derived CBD, you’ll want to examine the difference between the amount of the entire product in the bottle versus the amount of actual CBD in each serving. This amount can vary depending on the supplemental ingredients used within the product, such as carrier oils (like olive oil or MCT), essential oils to enhance flavor, and other ingredients added to tailor products to your specific needs.

Further, the supplemental ingredients plus the quality and concentration of CBD can vary from company to company. So one “drop” of CBD from one brand can significantly differ from the “drop” of another. This is why it’s imperative to understand what the milligrams actually mean for you when you are using CBD products. CBD companies who utilize a scientifically-advanced process to make the CBD more bioavailable (such as nanoemulsion) may recommend that you use less product to achieve results, as the product is designed to more quickly absorb into your bloodstream and contains a more concentrated amount of the active CBD ingredient. Again, this is why understanding labels is important in finding the right dosage, because there is no one-size-fits-all rule for dosing that applies to every product.

Differentiating CBD Dosages between Products

For tinctures, labels should indicate how many milligrams of CBD are contained in each full dropper, giving consumers enhanced control of their specific dosage as they fine-tune their milligram intake using the easily measurable dropper-applicator. For example, a 1000 milligram bottle of oral drops may contain 33.33 milligrams per serving (for a total of approximately 30 servings per bottle). For a beginner, you may want to start with your dropper ¼ full, exposing your body to only about 8 milligrams initially. You can repeat this up to four times per day, and listen to your body to see if you need to alter the dosage for your desired effect. It’s best to start with minimal dosing and increase as needed to find your body’s perfect amount.

For softgels, each individual gel capsule will contain a pre-measured amount of CBD (which should be specified on the label of the product) as well as other ingredients to enhance the product’s overall effectiveness. Again, reading the label is key here. While premeasured, most companies offer various sizes to accommodate various dosage preferences. For example, the same type of softgel may contain 11 or 27 milligrams in each softgel, so reading the label is the way to carefully control your dosage. Once again, it is highly recommended to start taking the lowest dosage and increase it gradually to find the ideal dosage for you.

Because topically administered CBD products – such as creams and balms – are applied directly to the skin, they do not enter the digestive system like orally administered products do. “Dosage” becomes challenging with topical products, as the CBD does absorb directly into your skin to provide relief to tired and fatigued muscles – but only locally (as in, it impacts the area it was administered but is unlikely to absorb into the bloodstream and impact the entire body). Because of this, you can easily combine products to enjoy topical benefits as well as head to toe relief from the product in your bloodstream.

CBD Recommendations for Your Body Type

In general, your weight can determine how your body can metabolize just about anything you ingest. So, of course, there’s no difference when it comes to understanding how many milligrams of CBD may impact your body. In general, based solely on your body type, these are the recommended dosages and how they may affect you.

Under 130 lbs:

→11 milligrams or less can provide mild effects

→12-14 milligrams can provide moderate effects

→15-17 milligrams can provide strong effects

130 lbs to 230 lbs:

→18 milligrams or less can provide mild effects

→19-23 milligrams can provide moderate effects

→24-27 milligrams can provide strong effects

Over 230 lbs:

→23 milligrams or less can provide mild effects

→24-30 milligrams can provide moderate effects

→31-45 milligrams can provide strong effects

These are general recommendations based solely on weight. So this should be used merely as a loose guideline as there are other things to consider as well – like personal tolerance, specific health conditions, and other medications. It is important to consult a physician before combining any health supplements with your prescribed medication, just to be on the safe side.

Choosing Quality CBD Products

Now that the idea of CBD dosage is a little more clear and hopefully you have a deeper understanding of labels, milligrams, and CBD in general, it’s important to reiterate one vital point: Purchasing high-quality CBD will ensure you have the best chance at seeing the results you are seeking. As we discussed above, it is fairly easy to slightly adjust your dosage in an effort to find the perfect amount of CBD to experience maximum beneficial results. However, if your CBD is not pure and contains harmful, unwanted chemicals, metals, and residual solvents, your dosage is not the problem… It’s your product.

We recently caught up with one of our brand ambassadors, Rasmus Andersen, to chat about how CBD has fit into his lifestyle, what’s coming up for him and what he has been up to recently.

Rasmus is a well-known Crossfit Games athlete. The Crossfit Games are the world’s premier fitness tests in which the winner is deemed the fittest athlete in the world. Rasmus has already competed in 5 Games with many more to come. In 2018, he finished 8th individually. In 2019, he and his team of Lauren Fischer, Tommy Vinas and Reagan Huckaby finished 3rd at the Team Games. Pretty great we must say.

We partnered up with Rasmus about a year ago and ever since then, he has used CBD to give him an advantage in his recovery, sleep and lifestyle. He has become a big advocate for CBD in the Crossfit world, and an important brand ambassador for Rejuvia.

We asked Rasmus to give us a rundown on everything he has been doing recently. Here’s what he had to say…

On what he’s been doing since the Holidays…

“I was traveling a lot over the holidays. [I visited] Nicaragua, Argentina, Colombia and Denmark. I got back mid-January and since then I’ve been dialing in my nutrition back in order to lose some weight and lean out for upcoming competitions. Besides that, wedding planning [with fiancé Lauren Fischer] is taking up quite a bit of my spare time right now which is great.”

On where he usually trains…

“I typically train at Invictus in downtown San Diego. We have a good group of people training together and it’s always a good amount of fun. It creates a very competitive environment, which is great for good quality training.”

On his recovery protocol…

“I always finish my sessions with a protein and carbohydrate shake. If it was an extra hard session I take some CBD right after my session as well to help calm [me] down and get back to normal. When I have sore muscles, I apply CBD balm on those specific areas. It smells good, but I feel like it helps release some of the soreness as well. Beside that I use a sauna and ice baths a few times a week and try to get bodywork once a week.”

On how CBD fits into his lifestyle…

“I take CBD drops every night! That’s my number one supplement priority at night. Not only does it help me fall asleep, but I also get a deeper and better sleep. I’m experimenting with other CBD products such as softgels and lotion, and so far I’m super happy with the results. I didn’t know about CBD until about a year ago, but it has become a game changer!

On the benefits he gets from CBD…

“The main effect that I receive from taking CBD is the ability to calm down. It helps me with my soreness and inflammation as well, but where I see the most results is when it comes to my sleep and the ability to relax after an intense workout.”

On what’s next for him…

“My next competition is in Dubai at the end of March. After that I have a few more in the pipeline, but these aren’t confirmed yet. However there should a good amount of competitions coming up soon, so very excited about that!”

Rasmus is looking forward to continue to introduce Hemp CBD to the Crossfit world. He is definitely a pioneer, but is enjoying the benefits of CBD day after day. Keep following along with our blog to hear about his future competitions!

The Wonder of CBD

CBD is the amazing, news-worthy “wonder-supplement” making headlines across the nation. Since 2018, when the Farm Bill was passed making it legal to purchase and consume CBD containing less than .3% THC, consumers immediately rushed to see what the buzz was all about. After giving it a try, many CBD skeptics became CBD enthusiasts, as they quickly realized the impact CBD can have on one’s day to day life.

For those who still have hesitation about CBD and many unanswered questions, look no further. In summary, CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of many helpful compounds extracted from the hemp plant. Though from the same genetic family as marijuana, hemp is a different, legal variation of the cannabis plant. Upon consumption, CBD has the remarkable ability to mimic the naturally-occurring endocannabinoids our body already makes (which help maintain important bodily functions). As a result, individuals report increased overall mental and physical vitality. As an all-natural, plant-based supplement, it’s clear why CBD has become so popular in the health and wellness community.

How Does CBD Get Extracted from the Hemp Plant – And Is It Safe?

There are many reasons a curious consumer may be interested in how CBD is extracted from hemp and whether the process is safe. Customers may also wonder if some methods are preferable over others to ensure the highest quality CBD is extracted and used in their favorite CBD products.

Because there tend to be multiple ways to achieve the same goal, not every CBD retailer will utilize the same extraction methods. And it is beneficial for customers to know exactly what they are purchasing – and how it was produced – in order to make the most informed choices for their health.

Here are the most popular extraction methods used by top CBD brands:

  • CO₂ Extraction – The most common CBD extraction method utilized by well-known CBD retailers is the CO₂ extraction method. This scientifically fascinating process includes the use of supercritical carbon dioxide to extract the helpful compounds. This is accomplished by first precisely controlling the temperature of the CO₂ to make it microscopically permeable to the plant. Then, the CO₂ works to dissolve and collect the extract, separating it from the plant using technologically-advanced chambers. This method is favorable, as the detailed process leaves little room for error, and the complex, expensive equipment extracts extremely high-quality CBD. Furthermore, CO₂ is used in the production of countless other safe-to-consume products, so it can be trusted in the CBD extraction process.
  • Solvent Extraction – Another well-known CBD extraction method is the practice of solvent extraction. This modest extraction method essentially works by using ethanol as a solvent, and mixing it with healthy hemp plant trimmings. Once the ethanol dissolves the extracts from the plant, the mixture is strained, then the ethanol/solvent blend is gradually heated until the ethanol evaporates, leaving only the CBD extract. Though this method sounds easier than the high-tech CO₂ extraction method, it also involves more risk. Because ethanol is highly flammable and part of this process involves heating the mixture, it could be extremely dangerous if not done with proper precautions. In addition, exposing CBD extract to excessive heat may compromise the potency of that product. Other common solvents used for this method include hydrocarbons like propane and butane.
  • Olive Oil Extraction – The easiest (and by far the safest) DIY extraction method is using olive oil (or your favorite cooking oil). This straightforward method may be relatively simple, but it also results in highly diluted CBD-infused oil. Because it is an infused oil, not a pure extract, the potency is significantly lower than using more complex extraction methods. Simply combine plant trimmings (which some people choose to decarboxylate first) with your olive oil and slowly heat it for up to two hours. Once the plant pieces are strained, the oil is infused and ready for use.

Being more in-the-know about these extraction methods equips you with additional knowledge while shopping and helps you make the most informed decisions about your health and wellness supplements.

Which Extraction Method Is the Best?

Some may feel that this is a matter of opinion. “Best” can certainly be relative. However, the preferred methods utilized by most professional CBD brands are the CO₂ extraction method and the solvent extraction method. When done by professionals, these scientifically advanced processes leave little room for error and ensure a potent plant extract. If these methods are attempted at home by a brave or adventurous consumer, there is the potential for mistakes that may compromise the extract potency or even the safety of the individual. Overall, for those seeking a DIY CBD extraction experience, methods like olive oil extraction is the safest to try. For more advanced CBD extraction through the CO₂ extraction method or the solvent extraction method, it is best to leave the complex science to professionals.

As an informed consumer, you now know and understand some of the various ways CBD is extracted from the hemp plant.
